Holy Cow

War of terror. Funniest home videos. Snapshot portraiture

The image trail left by September 11 2001. Planes impacting with buildings. Consumer jetliners used as suicide bombs. The domestication of terror. The revenge of the flying object on the body. Asking strangers for their portrait, framed by an Australian Government self-surveillance poster.

The video Holy Cow reflects the formal aspects of September 11 2001 attacks on the WTC twin towers in New York. It was an attempt to perform the event, mirroring the events with my body and other tools. The formal structure of a flying object colliding with a static form was represented as a frisbee hitting a child in the face within Australia’s Funniest Home Videos television show. I used my own corporality as surveillance aparatus; asking strangers for their portrait in a front of a federal government anti-terror poster.
