The concept "to become famous" focuses the ambition of the artist to be accepted in the art system and, at the same time, the need to survive in everyday life. It represents symbolically all relations between life, love and success, money and the actually basic need of the human being.

U.S.A. #1
Wednesday 15 August 2007 9pm $5-
Hard Rock Cafe, Bourke St. Melbourne

" While the U.K is 44, and Australia is 66, have you ever questioned why the telephone country code for the U.S.A is number 1? Is it possible it is the same question as 'why is number 1, number 1'? Through the eyes of unspoken-for minority, two American-born Australian residents kick uncompromising facts into the faces of all who believe the U.S.A could be relegated any other number.
From the country that brought you the lightbulb, rock n roll, the internet, the moonwalk (both kinds), jazz, comics, hamburgers, the most prison breakouts, velcro, cheerleaders, Enron, and, hell, the tallest trees on the planet (sequoias), come 2 all-American males, Erick Mitsak & Steve Stanelun, who put it to those that believe America is only worth ridiculing, by singing, dancing, joking, screaming and video projecting them to death with solid, eye-rolling facts.
The event will include a stellar line-up of Australia's most cutting edge and talented artists..."

Curator: Daniel Mudie Cunningham as part of the Firstdraft Emerging Curators Program

" Clip Art showcases artists who make work about clips formed from fragments of moving and still images or through a combination of graphics and sound. Clip Art investigates the oppositional nature of meaning made from clip-based work and responds to the recent fascination with applying aural terms like sampling and remixing to the visual domain. Whether witty interrogations of popular culture or nostalgic trips through the visual archives of the recent past, Clip Art champions the analogue and handmade as much as it does daring things with digital technologies.
